Government party Rkp MP Eva Biaudet the Minister of Foreign Trade and Development abstained from voting Ville Tavion (ps) and the government’s confidence on Wednesday.
Biaudet was in place in the plenary hall, but did not press the voting button at all.
“I was there and didn’t vote because I couldn’t support the minister,” Biaudet tells Helsingin Sanomat.
The vote of confidence in Tavio was taken due to the motion of no confidence made by Sdp on Tuesday. According to the opposition, Tavio acted against Finland’s foreign policy line when he decided in the summer to leave Finland out of the equality coalition related to the reconstruction of Ukraine.
Biaut did not press the button in the second vote, which concerned the entire government’s confidence.
“I think it was a failure that the government did not correct [Tavion] decision and Finland’s foreign policy line remained remarkably unclear,” he reasons.
Both Minister Tavio and the government won the parliament’s trust with a clear margin of vote. All representatives of the governing parties who participated in the vote voted in favor of confidence.
Biaudet has left the government front before. Among other things, he voted for the vacant minister of economic affairs in the summer by Wille Rydman (ps) for trust. Biaudet has also opposed several proposals tightening the government’s immigration policy, as well as the so-called conversion law.
