The Independent Energy Producer BNZ on Wednesday opened three photovoltaic projects in the Lacio region (Italy) that, in total, add up to a capacity of 135 megawatts (MW). The three plants meant an investment close to 150 million euros and involved the creation of about 200 jobs, both direct and indirect.
According to the company, the electricity produced in its parks could cover approximately the 60% of the annual needs of the municipalities of Montalto di Castro and Viterbo. In addition, the energy produced by the three plants will grant the area greater energy independence and supply security, while allowing a saving of almost 41.5 million cubic meters of natural gas per year.
As collateral effects, the implementation of the project will avoid the issuance of 66,187 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year, which is equivalent to, according to energy calculations, to 3,940 round trip flights between Rome and Los Angeles for a family of four people.
“The inauguration of our three plants in Lazio is part of our widest route in Italy, which includes new development projects and the exploration of opportunities with innovative technologies. Our goal is to reach 520 MW of new capacity installed by 2026, through a total of nine photovoltaic plants, also located in Sicily and Apulia. Our goal is to become one of the largest IPPS solar IPPS in Italy region, “he said during the opening of the plant Luis SelvaCEO of BNZ, which also attended representatives of the local authorities.
BNZ currently has more than 1.7 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy in development, construction and operation in Spain, Italy and Portugal. In Spain, it accumulates 134.8 MW, distributed in six projects: two operations in Cádiztwo others also working in Méridaand two others under construction both in Jaén as in Murcia.
