BMW closed the third quarter of the year with results exceeding expectations: almost 28 billion euros in revenues in the period from July to September alone, in a market environment dominated by the crisis caused by the shortage of microchips and semiconductors and by the pandemic. Sure, the German automaker has also suffered from the impact of the lack of these key components, although it appears to have done so to a lesser extent than rival brands. And Pieter is extremely satisfied with this Note, member of the board of directors of the BMW group with responsibility for sales, customers and brands.
“We too have lost something in production due to the chip crisis, but less than our direct competitors, managing the contingency better and remaining a leader in the premium sector – explained to the microphones of Ansa – The good results derive from a series of financial transactions, but above all from the strong demand for our products and from a wide and varied offer, which in the electrified models is giving us great satisfaction ”. He focused on the sustainability of the company later, explaining how BMW’s intentions are to raise the bar of ambitions: “We try to anticipate the global goal decrease of 1.5 degrees by 2050 with a series of concrete actions in production. Our range, on the other hand, is totally declined to the new generation engines, which are not only the electric ones “.
The reference is clearly hydrogen, power supply for which BMW is continuing to invest a lot of money: “We have announced the sale of the X5 Hydrogen Next SUV next year, and we believe that hydrogen may be the future for powering large cars and vehicles. Not immediately, perhaps from 2026 onwards ”. The real problem according to Nota, especially in reference to electricity, is linked to the charging infrastructure network, which creates many headaches for consumers: “The problem is not just research. It’s infrastructure the real bottleneck. Europe is asking producers to reduce emissions, but it must also make it possible to build the necessary recharging infrastructures ”.
