To fully understand the extent of the accident caused in Reutlingen, Germany, by a BMW iX just read the balance sheet: one dead and nine injured. In fact, it seems that the BMW iX in question touched a Citroën arriving in the opposite direction, and then hit a Mercedes-Benz branded van head-on, causing the death of a 33-year-old passenger. The 70-year-old woman behind the wheel of the Citroën, on the other hand, lost control of her car and ended up colliding with another vehicle, which went off the road and caught fire. Altogether, therefore, ten people were involved in the accident caused by the German electric SUV, which according to the local police at that time was subjected to tests with technology autonomous driving. A hypothesis promptly denied by BMW, which reiterated that the iX in question was equipped only with the same level 2 driver assistance technology installed on the production version of the SUV and was marked as a test car for the purposes of protection of the data because he was recording footage.
BMW has made it known that it is investigating the exact circumstances of the accident by being in close contact with the authorities.
