BMW is even more successful than last year and things were going well then.
The BMW Group is doing well. The German group has been scoring well in recent years and 2023 was also a particularly pleasant year for the premium car manufacturer. Today they proudly announce that ANOTHER sales record has been broken. We immediately come to terms with the number: 2,555,341.
More than 2.5 million cars were sold in a year. That's a record. Please note, this concerns the BMW Group, so that includes all brands within it, so in addition to BMW, it also includes Mini and Rolls-Royce. BMW Motorrad (that motorcycle mouse division) also did excellent business in 2023.
BMW even more successful than last year
In short, reason for a party in Munich. Not only because they sell a lot of cars, but also because the electric models seem to be catching on. EVs are very expensive to develop and the market has not yet fully recovered. The Germans can also benefit from the fact that 15% of their cars are fully electric.
Yes, fully electric. Manufacturers sometimes want to use the term 'electrified' so that they can also include hybrids, but that is not the case with that 15%. 376,183 EVs were sold, an increase of 74.4%.
There are also only more electric BMWs. In 2024, 1 in 5 BMWs to be introduced will be fully electric, next year that will be 1 in 4. That still sounds modest for a company that calls itself a 'pioneer' in the field of EVs. It seems like an advantage through technology.
By the way, that only says something about introductions, nothing about sales. BMW wants to sell more than half a million electric cars by 2024. In 2024, two new EVs will be added to the showroom in the form of the i5 Touring and iX2.
Runners
So what were the runners? According to BMW, these were mainly the 3 Series, X1 and X3. Of the EV models, the iX1 and i4 did very well. Relatively speaking, the huge 7 Series and X7 were also in high demand.
How did things go with BMW M? This used to be the motorsport division that occasionally made a road car, but now it is a very successful branch of BMW. 202,530 cars were sold with an ///M badge. Please note: these are 'performance' and 'high performance' models. The M2, M3 Touring, i4 M50 and XM seem to be doing well, according to the Germans.
Mini
Mini sales were also on the rise, albeit a modest lift: 0.9% more than last year. 295,474 copies were sold. This includes 45,261 electric Minis. The most popular new Mini model at the moment is the Mini Cooper SE Electric.
A new Mini has just been introduced, both the hatchback and the Countryman are completely new. A fully electric five-door crossover in the form of the Mini Aceman is planned for 2024.
Rolls Royce
Then we finally arrive at Rolls-Royce. The sales figures of that proud brand are traditionally low. Not surprising, considering the new prices. Fortunately, a hefty margin can make it worth it.
It sold 6,032 copies in 2023. The most popular Rolls is – not surprisingly – the Cullinan. At number two is the Ghost and at number three the Phantom.
