BMW, in the third quarter profit up 42% with more profitable sales
The German car group BMW has confirmed the annual forecasts, recently revised, after recording a net profit of 2.6 billion, in 42% growth on an annual basis, despite the shortage of microchips which slowed sales. Between July and September, the group sold 593,200 cars, a 12% drop in a year but benefited from more profitable sales, while semiconductor supply problems “should also affect us after 2021,” noted chief financial officer Nicolas Peter.
BMW justified this sharp increase in profits in September with the positive impact of product mix as well as the effects of vehicle prices. Company president Oliver Zipse stressed that the group, with its focus on environmentally neutral mobility, is making consistent progress towards achieving this goal. The Munich-based company has achieved a turnover until September of 82.831 billion euros, an increase of 19.2%, while the operating profit reached 10.913 billion euros, a growth of 314%.
