While BMW was drier, Audi has left some doubts about the groundlessness of the rumors emerged regarding the purchase of McLaren. The brand of the Four Rings has in fact stressed that it is always ready to “consider various ideas for cooperation” as part of its “strategic deliberations”. According to the report released by Auto News, BMW reportedly held talks with the Bahraini sovereign wealth fund Mumtalakat, which controls McLaren, in early December.
The British brand has been looking for new investors for several months after the brand suffered during the period of the pandemic. In August, the company revealed its willingness to sell its applied technology division to a private investment fund. This announcement came a few months after the McLaren sold its headquarters in Woking for 237 million dollars. In July, the British carmaker also announced a £ 550 million ($ 765 million) capital increase that included £ 400 million ($ 556 million) from the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund and the global investment Ares Management. The company also sold a minority stake in its Formula 1 team for £ 185 million ($ 257 million) earlier this year.
