The European Commission has approved BlueCruisethe Ford’s Level 2 “hands-free, eyes on the road” driver assistance technology, thanks to which it will be possible to travel over 133,000 kilometres of European motorways. The system will be able to in fact used in 15 countries of the Union and activated in the areas identified as “Blue Zone”: in Italy on over 90% of the motorway network.
What does he do…
When the system is active controls steering, acceleration, braking, lane keeping and safety distance from the vehicle in frontmonitoring horizontal and vertical road signs, speed limits and traffic. Based on the evolution of driving conditions, it is able to automatically adapt the speed, even bringing the vehicle to a complete stop in the event of traffic jams. While driving in a BlueZone, it is possible to take your hands off the wheel, while always keeping your attention on the road. A camera located near the dashboard monitors the direction of the driver’s gaze, even if they are wearing sunglasses, as well as the position of their head, to ensure that their attention is not diverted. If this happens, the system will send alerts to the driver and, if they are ignored, will stop the car in complete safety.
Making its debut on the MY24 Mustang Mach-E
BlueCruise – which in Italy will be available, based on the national approval regulations on all new Mustang Mach-E MY24 – can be tried free of charge for 90 days. At the end of the free trial period, the service can be activated with a monthly or annual subscription.
“Thanks to BlueCruise, driving on the motorway becomes easier and more relaxing, both in heavy traffic and on long journeys”, comments Fabrizio Faltoni, CEO Ford Italy. “The extension of the Blue Zones to Italy and the possibility of offering this incredible technology to our customers represents a milestone and an incredible opportunity. Today we can offer an even safer and more enjoyable driving experience”.
