For horror lovers, Netflix premiered Blood red sky -Blood red sky in English-, German film that has already positioned itself as one of the most popular productions in Peru within the platform catalog.
The production stars Peri Baumeister (Netflix’s Skylines), Kais Setti (The Dogs of Berlin), Alexander Scheer (Hausen), Dominic Purcell (The Flash) and Graham McTavish (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey). Also, the film is directed by Peter Thorwarth.
What is Blood Red Sky about?
The film takes us to meet Nadja (Peri Baumeister) and her son Elías (Carl Koch) who are about to board a night flight from Germany to New York. In the middle of the trip, they are surprised by a group of terrorists, led by Berg (Dominic Purcell), who take control of the plane.
Here we see the mother facing two problems: first, she must save Elías and second, prevent the attackers from hurting them. For this, she has a card up her sleeve: she is a vampire.
What happened at the end of Blood Red Sky?
In a collection of flashbacks, we discover how Nadja became a vampire in the first place. These memories showed us that she was traveling with her husband Nikolai and their baby Elías; however, the car broke down in the middle of nowhere.
To find help, Nikolai got out of the car and left on foot but did not return. At that moment, the woman followed her companion’s path to an old farm, where she found him dead. Immediately afterwards, she was attacked by a vampire whom she killed, preventing her from leaving the basement while the sun rose, but he managed to bite her.
Consequently, Nadja was transformed into a vampire. Then, she returned to the scene of the incident, where an elderly vampire was waiting for her who tried to kill her for letting his son burn. It is when he found vials of vampire suppressant that he took and, with it, viewers discover that the injections help him control his cannibalistic impulses and his physical transformations.
Back on the flight, after tasting the blood of one of the terrorists, Nadja begins to physically transform into her true form, but manages to contain herself long enough to lock Elías and herself in the cabin with another passenger who can fly the plane.
As the hijackers prepare the plane with explosives and prepare to parachute, Eightball notices the vial of vampire suppressant and the trail of blood, confirming that the woman he shot is still alive and rushes back and attempts to confront. to her.
Nadja refuses to open the cabin door. In that sense, and sensing that his mission may fail, Berg kills a passenger and threatens to do it again if they are not allowed to enter said compartment. In her refusal to let more innocent perish, Nadja jumps in and kills Berg while the others are shocked to see what they are up against.
They all retreat, but Eightball uses an ultraviolet light to subdue the vampire and draws her blood with a syringe. When he is about to stab his heart, Elías points a pistol at him and, in the resulting struggle, a window is shot open, disrupting the air pressure.
The hijackers manage to control the plane and reduce the altitude to normalize the pressure while Eightball retreats to the cargo hold and injects the blood, also transforming into a vampire and what follows is total chaos, due to the passengers, along with Nadja, they try to defend themselves from Eightball: most end up dead, while others transform into thirsty blood-sucking beasts.
After different sequences, Farid – with whom Elías had become friends at the airport – now directs the plane. Nadja realizes that if the ship lands and the doors open, the vampires will wreak havoc. Therefore, he decides to sacrifice himself and decides to blow up the airplane just when Elías is safe.
However, just when she makes Farid promise to take care of his son, Elías manages to grab the detonator before she does. Meanwhile, Eightball returns and drains Nadja’s blood and directs her attention to Elijah. However, just as he is about to kill the boy, Farid redirects the trajectory towards the sun and Eightball dies forever.
However, the threat continues to lurk and Elías uses his own blood to revive his mother, but she moves away from him, after completing his transformation. Along those lines, when the flight lands, Elías and Farid are the only two human survivors. While the first one warns the authorities not to enter, they try to arrest Farid, because they think he is one of the kidnappers.
What does the end of Blood Red Sky mean?
Unfortunately, the soldiers ignore Elijah’s warnings and enter the plane. However, they encounter a swarm of vampires, leading to a bloody slaughter.
In the midst of this commotion, Elías sees his mother drinking the blood of a soldier and realizes that there is no way to save her. Therefore, he uses the detonator that he had stolen earlier and unleashes the explosion with which he kills everyone on board.
After he realizes that what the boy said was not part of a wild imagination, the colonel in command orders that Farid be released and the film ends with the subject and Elías sharing a hug.
