Black Widow came to Disney Plus as the first phase 4 film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The expectations were high and gave rise to all kinds of criticism and praise, but no one doubted the success of its simultaneous premiere on the streaming platform and select cinemas.
Following the release, fans asked for more deliveries with Scarlett Johansson like the Black Widow, but the legal battle between the actress and Disney has resulted in the dismissal of this request. The news was released through The Wall Street Journal along with the announcement of the lawsuit filed against the company.
Although this project was designed for a single installment, the director of the film, Cate shortland, did not rule out the possibility of creating more related sequels, even without Johansson’s involvement.
“I think following another character, yes. I think Scarlett is really happy to leave the party, you know? And that she was not the last to leave. She decided that she wanted to leave. And I don’t think she wants to go back at this point, “said the filmmaker in an interview with Radio Times.
For his part, Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige told Entertainment Tonight that he is also in favor of reprising the character. Furthermore, he insisted that Black Widow would not be the last prequel to the spy.
“Betting on new beginnings is something that characterizes Marvel and Scarlett Johansson is an incredible collaborator. She has produced this movie and she was actually the one who brought in our amazing director Cate Shortland, so I’m looking forward to continuing to work with her, if we’re lucky. “
