The BJP on Sunday termed ‘Love Jihad’ a serious problem and supported the decision by the party-ruled states to enact laws against it. BJP-ruled states like Uttar Pradesh and Haryana made clear their intention to enact laws against ‘Love Jihad’. It is known that ‘love jihad’ is a term coined by pro-Hindutva groups, which is meant to force Hindu girls to convert to religion by allegedly pretending to marry.
Opposition parties have termed it an attempt by the BJP to divide the society and said that any such law would be against the constitution. In response to a question asked in this regard, BJP General Secretary Arun Singh said – Love jihad is a serious problem, many mothers and sisters have to bear the consequences. It is a state subject and the state governments should make laws about it. State governments are worried about it and will do it too.
On the question of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel targeting the saffron party on the issue of ‘love jihad’, citing weddings of some BJP leaders in other religions, Singh said that Baghel should first state that the promises with which he What happened to them when they came to power?
