The Revival Series program gets underway and will bring the Bizzarrini 5300 GT, an icon of the Sixties and emblem of the Italian brand. Last year, the British dealer Pegasus Brand entrusted its automotive division and former Aston Martin managers Ulrich Bez, Christopher Sheppard and Martin Janette Green the task of carrying out the project that aimed to bring the sports car that had concretized Giotto Bizzarrini’s vision back onto the road. In recent weeks, the prototype has been completed which has begun road tests, from which the 24 examples of the 5300 GT Revival Corsa will be built for customers. The first deliveries are already scheduled for the month of May.
Designed and built by Giotto Bizzarrini in 1965, the 5300GT was a racing version of the Iso Grifo A3 / C. The Revival Corsa perfectly replicates chassis 0222, which won the 5-liter class at the 1965 LeMans 24 Hours and finished ninth overall. In fact, it is driven by the 327 cubic inch V8 engine of Chevrolet origin, which produces 400 hp thanks to four Weber DCOE double starter carburettors. The powertrain is specifically set back to provide the best possible weight distribution, with 25 percent on each corner of the car and a total weight of just 1,250kg. The shell is made entirely of carbon fiber, used because it is believed to be the material that Giotto Bizzarrini would have used if it had existed at his time. The original in fact had a fiberglass bodywork.
For the Revival Series both were used the original designs of the Bizzarrini 5300 GT than 3D design. Safety has been increased thanks to the redesigned fuel tanks and six-point roll bar, all complying with the FIA Appendix K historic racing regulations. Engineer Giotto Bizzarrini boasted an experience in the greatest Italian brands of the time: after his beginnings in Alfa Romeo he collaborated for a long time with Ferrari, the 250 GTO and the first Testa Rossa, as well as personally participating in the ISO project of Revolt.
