SAO PAULO (Reuters) – The 82nd biodiesel auction in Brazil negotiated 1.07 billion liters of the biofuel to meet the mandatory blend in diesel, and the price rose 4.4% compared to the previous event, the agency reported on Thursday fuel sector regulator, the ANP.
The price rose despite the government’s decision to reduce the mandatory blend to 10% biodiesel in diesel, citing the high cost of the raw material – soy oil accounts for more than 70% of the biofuel’s production.
Auction 81 was held to meet a mandate of 12%.
As a result, the volume traded was lower than that recorded in the last auction, when the total purchased was 1.29 billion liters.
The ANP also informed that there were no auctions for voluntary mixing in the 82nd auction, which aims to serve the market in November and December.
The average trading price was 5.907 reais/liter, without considering the acquirer’s margin, versus 5.658/liter in the previous event.
The total value traded in the 82nd biodiesel auction reached the level of 6.34 billion reais, reflecting an average discount of 23.9% when compared to the weighted average of the Maximum Reference Prices in the region (R$7.759/L), according to the ANP.
The stage of presentation of offers to meet the mandatory mix had 44 producers making available a total volume of about 1.37 billion liters.
