The law on foreign agents came into force in Georgia earlier
On June 3, Papuashvili signed the law on foreign agents and it came into force. In order for the new norms to work, the parliament had to override the veto of Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili. Prime Minister of the country Irakli Kobakhidze claimedthat the adoption of the bill is necessary to preserve sovereignty and security.
The document caused mass protests in the republic. The law was also viewed negatively in the United States and the European Union. Thus, the head of the State Department press service, Matthew Miller, said that because of the law on foreign agents, Washington will introduce visa restrictions against Georgia.
