What does Vettel do?
After testing the Porsche in Aragon for a test that evoked an evocative possible debut of Sebastian Vettel at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the German has not once again closed the door on a return to Formula 1. In the interviews following this test he in fact stated that he was in contact with several teams in the premier category of motor racing, including Toto Wolff of Mercedes.
The Mercedes list
In the Suzuka press conference on Friday, Toto Wolff he stated that “don't discard Vettel”but also hinted that he had narrowed the list of candidates for Hamilton's seat to one limited circle of names.
There Bild he assured with certainty that lThe Mercedes list does not include the name of 36-year-old Sebastian Vettel, as it would be made up of Max Verstappen – the clear favorite due to the internal struggles in Red Bull -, Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Fernando Alonso.
For Vettel, however, a return to motorsport would be possible and in addition to the idea of the all-German pairing with Porsche at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the four-time world champion could be of interest to Red Bull: “If Verstappen really were to leave the team or if they didn't renew Perez, Vettel could be flirting with a return to his former team“. For F1 Insider, however, the Red Bull hypothesis would not have all this consistency: “He didn't get along on the best terms with Horner and recently asked for greater transparency in the employee's affair.”
