The movement had the participation of Governor Rodrigo Garcia, who declared “unconditional” support for the president.
The estimate of the PSDB’s São Paulo directory is that 80% of the 262 party mayors in the state declared support for the reelection of Jair Bolsonaro (PL). The data comes after the current governor, Rodrigo Garcia (PSDB), placed 3rd in the race for reelection and declared “unconditional” support for the president.
Among the mayors who support Bolsonaro are Duarte Nogueira, from Ribeirão Preto, and Orlando Morando, from São Bernardo do Campo. They attended last week’s dinner between the governor and the president at Palácio dos Bandeirantes, seat of the state government.
The mayor of the city of Caieiras, in greater São Paulo, Gilmar Lagoinha, justified his support for both the president and his candidate for government, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), from the perspective of attracting investment. “Having a governor aligned with the president will bring even more resources and investments to the city,” he said.
“Unconditional” support
Two days after losing the elections in São Paulo, Rodrigo Garcia declared unconditional support for Jair Bolsonaro and Tarcísio de Freitas. Both were the most voted candidates in São Paulo.
Last Thursday (Oct 20, 2022), Garcia received Bolsonaro and Tarcísio for a dinner at Palácio dos Bandeirantes. He took approximately 90 mayors and asked candidates for support in the final week.
Garcia is new to the PSDB and is expected to leave the party after the elections. He negotiates with União Brasil.
