Biden added that, “With the number of injuries rising, we still have tens of millions of people who are not immunized and we are witnessing an increase in the number of hospitalizations,” noting that “hospitals in some areas will witness a strain in terms of equipment and staff.”
He also acknowledged that despite the provision of a large number of examinations, they are still insufficient, according to what was reported by “AFP”.
“Seeing how difficult it is for some people to get tested this weekend shows we have more work to do,” he explained.
He stressed that in addition to increasing the number of free testing sites, the administration is pushing to provide more home testing, adding: “There was nothing when we took over. Nothing. Now we have 8 brands on the market.”
The government is working to buy 500 million home tests for distribution to Americans.
In a virtual meeting hosted by the White House with several state governors and senior health advisers, Biden stressed that the rapid spread of “Omicron” would not have the same impact as previous Covid waves.
And he indicated that “Omicron is a source of concern, but it should not be a source of panic.”
And he added, “Because many vaccines and boosters have been given, we are not seeing an increase in hospitalizations as it was in the past. The Americans have made progress. The situation is better.”
But he stressed that “it is not enough. It is clearly not enough. If we had known, we would have worked harder and faster. We have to do more.”
The United States recorded a higher number of deaths from the epidemic than any other country, exceeding 816,000 deaths and 52 million injuries.
