“Last night, under my supervision, U.S. military forces in northwest Syria successfully conducted a counterterrorism operation to protect the American people and our allies, and make the world a safer place,” a White House statement said.
He added, “Thanks to the skill and courage of our armed forces, we were able to eliminate Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Quraishi – the leader of ISIS.”
He continued, “All Americans have returned safely from the operation. I will address the American people later today.”
And in October 2019, the extremist organization ISIS announced, through its agency, Amaq, the appointment of the “caliph” of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who was killed in an air strike.
Amaq said at the time that ISIS “announces the appointment of Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Quraishi as its successor.”
