Sandra Flunner is the only biathlon chief coach. At the start of the home World Cup in Switzerland, she talks about the positive effects of shared training-and recognizes areas in which women are better than men.
The upcoming World Biathlon Championship is a premiere: the best athletes in Switzerland compete for the first time after the women’s competitions had already taken place there in 1985. Sandra Flunner is the first head coach of a great nation for men and women in biathlon and thus a pioneer. The 42-year-old was once a biathlete herself, but started the coaching career in her home country in Austria at the beginning of 20. There she headed the women’s team for three years from 2013-during this time, Selina Gasparin won an Olympic medal for the first time. After discrepancies with the association, Sandra Flunner resigned and worked with a private training group with well -known athletes for two years. In 2018, as a trainer of women, she moved to the neighbors in Switzerland, and last year she was promoted to head coach.
