We must always learn something from tragedies, especially when they occur in a sport that is inevitably always in close contact with danger, such as Formula 1. This is also why the images seen at Suzuka, with a tractor at work on the track and engaged in recovering a crashed car – in the pouring rain and therefore in conditions of very poor visibility – while the other single-seaters parade alongside is unacceptable. Witnessing those images, the thoughts of all motorsport fans inevitably ran to the drama that involved Jules Bianchi, who died following the injuries sustained on the Suzuka circuit in 2014 when – still in the deluge – he went off the track and crashed into a tractor parked in an escape route and busy removing a car that had previously gone off the track.
By radio, Pierre Gasly, who found himself in spite of himself right next to the tractor during his rescue operations, exploded with rage, defining the incident as unacceptable. The controversy has inevitably mounted on the social channels and Philippe Bianchi, Jules’s father, has also intervened on the very delicate issue. The parent of the missing boy from the Ferrari Driver Academy has posted on Instagram the images of Gasly himself on board, in which the dangerous position of the tractor can be clearly seen. His comment was very harsh, written with the terrible awareness of the terrible consequences of an accident in those conditions: “No respect for the life of the drivers and no respect for the memory of Jules. Incredible”. Words that do not need further specification and that should make everyone think in the world of F1.
