Russia will turn into a food superpower in the next 30 years due to the agricultural potential of Siberia. This assumption was made on September 27 in a material for business insider Chea Heng He, co-chief investment officer at the Hong Kong financial company Value Partners Group.
“All these vast territories that they own in Siberia will become the largest and most productive agricultural lands in the world in the next three decades. Russia will turn into a food superpower,” he said.
According to him, climate change is negatively affecting agriculture in the world, but in the case of Siberia, with its empty arable land, there is potential for huge farms.
“Russia could be the biggest winner in the global warming story,” he added.
He concluded by advising to look at Russia in the long term, as investments in agriculture in Siberia in the future may surprise with profitability.
On that day, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the total grain harvest in Russia in 2022 could reach a record 150 million tons, including 100 million tons of wheat.
Earlier, on June 17, Putin said that Russia could significantly increase the export of food and fertilizers. According to him, next season the volume of grain supplies may increase to 50 million tons.
Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov also pointed out that cooperation with Russia would be a key method for resolving the food crisis. However, instead of solving the problem in an effective way, Western countries continue to accuse Moscow of aggravating world problems.
On September 9, Advisor to the Minister of Agriculture Yuri Kosovan said that in the context of the global food crisis, Russia’s role as one of the key suppliers of agricultural products is growing. According to him, the Russian Federation is one of the few countries in the world that this year will show an increase in agricultural production in almost all areas.
