After the abolition of Roe v. Wade last week, many employees of the manufacturer of Skyrim, Bethesda Game Studios and of ZeniMax Media they are increasingly frustrated by what they believe to be their employer’s reluctance to support employee access to reproductive health care.
This is a problem that many of the developers of Starfield and of Redfall, whose branches of the company are based in states such as Texas where the law against abortion is very strict. All of this emerged especially in the Slack channels of Bethesda when members of management have failed to respond to employee concerns and requests on the matter.
While pressure continues on management to unequivocally commit to supporting the relocation of employees to states where the regulations are less stringent, it is not surprising, however, that in the same companies there are staff members in favor of the choice of the supreme court, thus contributing internal tensions then exploded in chats.
One employee in particular sparked a heated argument when she wrote this anti-abortion statement in Slack:
“I am dismayed by the constant cry of the ‘right’ to kill one’s own children “he wrote. “Human rights are not violated in overturning Roe vs. Wade, they are restored for those who cannot speak for themselves”Including eleven quotes from the bible in this message.
This discussion has exacerbated the tensions already present within the company perimeter due to the lack of support that employees believe they have received from the editors of Fallout in taking a clear stance on their rights. The same chat was then closed and cleared of the message by a member of management with a specific request to keep political and religious issues out of company chats.
A thorny situation that apparently Bethesda And ZeniMax they will have to try to mediate in an America more and more split in half.
