The car market in Italy it continues in its period of crisis in October, with 101,015 new registrations and a flexion of the 35.7% compared to 157,188 in 2020. A not unexpected decrease, also due to one working day less than in October 2020, but of ever-increasing dimensions that lead to a loss of almost 360,000 cars in the first ten months of the same period 2019 (with 1,266,629 registrations, 22% less).
The persistent chip crisis which continues to severely slow down the flow of deliveries, does not suggest possible improvements in the short term, so much so as to make a 2021 closure realistic with a total volume not exceeding 1,500,000 units, equal to 417,000 fewer cars in 2019, a decline of 21.7%.
How many cars were sold in October 2021?
According to the data published today by the Ministry of Sustainable Infrastructures and Mobility, in October 2021 in Italy they were sold 101,015 cars (-35.7%) against 157,188 units registered in October 2020.
The volumes registered in the first ten months of 2021 thus amount to a 1,266,629 units, 12.7% more than the volumes of the January-October 2020 period, which had been characterized by a significant decline in sales due to the effects of the containment measures pandemic. Compared to 2019, the period January-October 2021 is down by 22%

In a period of severe crisis the Fiat Panda all the more reason it continues to be the best-selling car in Italy also in October, with 11,130 registrations. In the ranking of best-selling cars precedes the Fiat 500 and the Lancia Ypsilon, respectively 3,310 and 3,015 units sold.

Who buys cars in October 2021?
From the analysis of the market structure in October, private motorists are the ones who buy the most vehicles, with a share of 66% which, in line with the market, are losing further 1/3 of the volumes compared to the same month last year. In the 10 months the share rises to 62.7%. The self-registrations lose about half of their enrollment and stop at8.7% compared to 9.7% of the cumulative.
The share of the long term rental which arrives at 17.8% in the month compared to 17.4% in the first 10 months, thanks to the good performance of the main Top companies against a sharp decline in Captives.
Another heavy decline affects the short term which falls to a minimum representativeness (1.4% in October, 4.8% in January-October), while the number of companies 6.1% in the month compared to 5.5% of the cumulative.
Sales of diesel, petrol, LPG and methane cars
Analyzing in detail the registrations for food, the decline in diesel and petrol cars, whose market share is progressively reducing in favor of hybrid and electric. In October, the share of non-refillable hybrid cars exceeded that of petrol-driven cars for the fourth consecutive month, and was the highest on the market.
The cars diesel, down by 63.5% in October, they represent 17.3% of the market of the month and 22.7% of the market in the first ten months of 2021 (it was 34.1% in the same period of 2020). Since the beginning of the year, diesel cars have seen their market shrink the most: -25%. The gasoline-powered car market is also down, -47% and 26.1% share in October And -12.3% in the first ten months, with a 30.4% share (9 percentage points less than January-October 2020).
The cars a gas represent the 9.2% of the market of the tenth month of 2021 and 9.3% of the market of the first ten months and, among these, cars LPG have a market share of 7.8% in the month and 7.1% in the cumulative and those with natural gas by 1.4%, in the month and 2.2% in the first ten months. Sales of LPG cars fell in the month (-31.4%) and grew from the beginning of the year (+ 19.5%), while those methane they decreased by 44.3% in October and increased by 8% in the cumulative.
Electric and hybrid car sales October 2021
The registrations of electrified cars in October represent the 56.6% of the market of October 2021 and the 46.9% in the first ten months, down by 3.9% in the month and up by 97.1% from the beginning of the year. Electrified cars represent the 47.4% of the October market and 37.6% in the first ten months.
Among these, the hybrid non-rechargeable are reduced by8.2% in October and reach the 35.3% share, as they grow by 122% in the cumulative, with a share of 28.7%.
The rechargeable, growing85.7% in the tenth month of the year, they reach 12% share in October and8.9% in the first ten months (plug-in hybrids 5% in the month and 4.6% in the cumulative, and electric cars the 7% in the month and 4.3% in the cumulative).

CO2 emissions October 2021
In September 2021, 12.7% drop average CO2 emissions of new registrations, a 114.9 g / km respect to 131 g / km in the same month 2020. In the first 10 months, emissions fell by 10.1% a 121.3 g / km (135 g / km in January-October 2020).
The analysis of registrations by CO band2, highlights a substantial stability of the share of incentivized cars in the 61-135 g / km range to 62.7% of the total and a contraction for those of range 0-20 g / km which together with the 21-60 g / km is positioned on a combined share of the11.7%, due to the lack of product resulting from the semiconductor crisis.
Collect half a stitch on the band from 136 to 190 g / km (to 21.2% of share), up by one decimal (to 1.8%) of the total those penalized by malus over 190 g / km of CO2.

Finally the second-hand market in October 2021 it closed with a drop of 16.8% on 2020 a 297,892 changes of ownership gross of minivoltings.
In the first 10 months i 2,887,375 passages indicate an increase in 18% on 2020, but a decline of 18.2% on the same period in 2019.
