Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, after a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, called the conversation particularly deep. He wrote about this in his Telegram channel on Friday, October 22.
“Russia is a very important player in the region. In fact, she is a kind of our neighbor from the north, so relations with her are both strategic and almost everyday. Against the backdrop of the beach in Sochi, Putin and I discussed a wide range of issues – from his attitude towards the Jewish people to ways of fighting fundamentalist Islam, ”the head of the Israeli government told subscribers.
He noted that relations between Israel and Russia are based on a rich past between the two peoples. And he especially emphasized the decisive role of the Russians in the surrender of the Nazis in World War II.
“This historical memory must not be erased, it must be passed down from generation to generation,” Bennett wrote.
Earlier, the Israeli media reported what issues of future cooperation were discussed by Vladimir Putin and Naftali Bennett. The parties talked about the success of bilateral trade, the situation in Syria and the topic of Iran’s nuclear program.
Even before leaving for Sochi, the Israeli prime minister said that relations between Russia and Israel are an important link in Israeli foreign policy in connection with the high international status of the Russian Federation and its position in the Middle East region.
Naftali Bennett’s talks with President Putin lasted five hours. As the Israeli leader’s office told reporters, the meeting was warm and positive, the leaders discussed significant issues of relations between the two countries.
