During the last hours, the novel starring Chivas de Guadalajara and Fernando Gago has taken several unexpected plot twists. According to several reports, once the departure of the Argentine coach was confirmed, the board of directors of the red and white team would confirm Gerardo Espinoza as the new shepherd of the flock. However, it seems that another coach will be the one to take over: it is Benjamín Mora.
According to a report from AS México, the coach who currently directs York United of the Canadian Premier League will be in charge of taking the reins of the team after Gago’s departure.
Mora is a 45-year-old coach who has spent a good part of his career abroad. Between 2015 and 2022 he was part of Malaysia’s Johor Darul Takzim, a team with which he won 11 titles.
In 2022 he received the opportunity to coach in Liga MX, but his one-year journey with Atlas was far from expectations. Mora led the red and black team for a total of 41 games, in which he had 13 wins, 14 draws and 14 losses.
His possible appointment has generated discomfort among Chivas de Guadalajara fans due to his past as coach of Atlas, one of the club’s biggest rivals.
After being fired by the red and black team, in October 2023, Mora took a break waiting for a new project. In June 2024, he was announced as the new tactician of Canadian side York United.
In 18 games leading this squad, Mora has eight wins, five draws and five losses.
