A weekend characterized by complaints, disqualifications, controversies and mutual accusations between Mercedes and Red Bull could have ended without a further call to the race direction. To go up to the commissioners’ office will be, once again, Lewis Hamilton, which he will certainly remember very well and for many reasons this Brazilian weekend. After winning an incredible race, conquered by recovering from 20th to fifth yesterday and from tenth to first today, the Englishman from Mercedes was in fact called by the stewards for having unfastened his seat belts during the lap of honor.
The seven-time world champion waved his arms for a long time returning to the pits, greeting the fans and also collecting a Brazilian flag along the way. In doing this he has probably unfastened his seat belts. A behavior that is not allowed by the regulations while you are driving on the track. Nothing particularly serious, of course. Hamilton is not in danger of losing these hard-earned 25 points. But there is one element that deserves to be under observation.
If Hamilton were to receive one for this behavior today reprimand – which is far from impossible – would be his second of the season. However, if you reach three reprimands during a championship, a penalty of ten positions is triggered on the grid. It seems superfluous to underline how much such an eventuality could affect the race to this highly balanced 2021 world title. Meanwhile, the only certainty is that Hamilton at 5.00 pm Interlagos time, 9.00 pm in Italy, has been called up by the stewards.
