The president believes that the club will be “among the five or six lowest budgets” in the Second Division
Cartagena repeats as one of the teams with the least money to make the squad for the 2022-23 season. In an interview with ‘Onda Regional’, president Paco Belmonte estimated that they will have around 6.4 million euros to sign players, figures that place the Albinegro club “among the five or six lowest budgets” in the Second Division. Last year, Efesé finished in ninth position and thrashed in seven games with the third smallest salary limit in the category: 6.1 million.
The Albinegro manager estimated that those 6.4 million will not vary much, in the absence of closing all the accounts. In the Second Division there are 22 teams, of which, he said, “10 or 12 can sign more than us” due to their high economic capacity. There are clubs that can perfectly triple Efesé economically. «We have to convince with other things that are not economic, with other arguments. We are looking for players who want to grow, believe in the project and have a different ambition.
“Minimum” margin of error
Belmonte recalled that this summer “we are playing the beans”, that we must find “four teams that are below” and reach “the 46, 47 or 48 points” of salvation “as soon as possible” and then we’ll see. “The margin of error is minimal,” he stressed. The Albinegro president, also in statements to public radio, did not give up dreaming “one day” of going up to the First Division, with work and consolidation of the foundations.
He also reiterated his confidence in retaining three pillars of the squad: Rubén Castro, Bodiger and De Blasis. “I am optimistic with all three. De Blasis wants to wear the shirt [albinegra], I’m sure”. Cartagena has closed the signing of Luca Sangalli and hopes to announce another in the next few hours, in the absence of the last fringes. Belmonte showed his “predisposition” to repeat the friendly match against Real Murcia last summer.
