Belarus refused to sell electricity to Ukraine, since November, Belenergo will not be supplied on the basis of previously concluded framework contracts. Writes about it “Economic truth”…
According to the newspaper, participants in the energy market received a letter from Belenergo. It says that no new framework contracts are planned. In addition, the company thanks its Ukrainian partners “for cooperation and interest in purchasing Belarusian electricity”.
At the same time, the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Yevgeny Shevchenko in an interview with the publication clarified that “the decision is due to the lack of economic benefits for the export of electricity to Ukraine.”
Earlier, Gazprom refused to increase the transit of natural gas to Ukraine. The Russian company did not book additional capacities for pumping fuel through the territory of a neighboring country on November 9.
At the same time, in just 2021, gas transit from Russia to Europe through the Ukrainian gas transportation system (GTS) decreased by 22 percent compared to the same period in 2020, amounting to 35.3 billion cubic meters.
35.3
billion cubic meters
amounted to the volume of gas transit from Russia through Ukraine for ten months of 2021
One of the reasons for the drop in the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine was a new contract between Gazprom and Hungary. According to it, since October 1, energy supplies to Europe go through the “Turkish Stream”.
In early November, the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from the Opposition Platform – For Life party Vadim Rabinovich on his Facebook page accused Lithuania and Moldova, buying energy resources from Russia, of betraying Ukraine. According to him, Moldova signed a five-year contract for the purchase of energy with the Russian “Gazprom” immediately after Ukraine “gave” it one million cubic meters of gas. At the same time, Lithuania bought energy from Russia, although before that it had urged Ukraine not to do this.
At the same time, the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from “Servant of the People” Maxim Buzhansky said that Lithuania, which called on Kiev not to buy electricity from Russia and Belarus, decided to import it from Moscow and Minsk at prices lower than Ukraine is forced to do. Buzhansky recalled how in March this year, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, speaking in the Rada, called on Ukraine to stop buying electricity from Russia and Belarus.
Meanwhile, residents of Ukraine are already being warned about planned power outages. According to the former secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) and ex-Minister of Finance Alexander Danilyuk, ads began to appear en masse in the villages of the Kiev and Khmelnytsky regions. People are being warned that, starting November 17, the lights will be turned off every other day from eight in the morning to six in the evening.
The German authorities are urging to launch the Russian gas pipeline “Nord Stream-2” as soon as possible. Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Seder is confident that the pipeline would become the backbone of stable gas supplies to Germany and would put gas prices in order.
At the same time, Ukraine is still trying to delay the certification of Nord Stream 2, the construction of which was completed on September 10. The head of the Ukrainian GTS Operator, Serhiy Makogon, said that the decision on the application filed by Kiev on October 20 for participation in the certification process of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline would be accepted until November 14.
Polish oil and gas company PGNiG, participating in the certification procedure, insists on the refusal of certification due to risks to the security of gas supplies to the EU. Russia has repeatedly emphasized the exclusively commercial nature of the gas pipeline.
However, the leaders of European countries, whose residents are suffering from soaring energy prices, have a different opinion. Klaus Ernst, a member of the German Bundestag from the Left Party, the former head of the Committee on Economics and Energy, said that Ukraine should not take part in the certification of Nord Stream 2. In his opinion, the country’s only task is to pay gas bills. Ernst holds a similar point of view regarding Poland, which, in his opinion, should not be taken into account.
