State Secretary of the Union State of Russia and Belarus Dmitry Mezentsev urged not to dramatize the sale of electricity by Minsk to Kiev. About this he said in an interview with “Soloviev Live”.
The Secretary of State specified that Belarus had previously fulfilled its treaty obligations to Ukraine, nothing new has happened in this situation in recent months. According to him, the allied sentiments and Russia’s expectations of Minsk on the issue of electricity should not be linked.
“Ultimately, it is necessary to replenish the Belarusian treasury and service the external debt. The sale of electricity is a form of loan repayment, although not today, but tomorrow. Let’s not dramatize, ”concluded Mezentsev.
Earlier on November 6, the Ministry of Energy of Belarus announced the resumption of electricity supplies to Ukraine. The schedule of resumed supplies was formed by Minsk, taking into account the available technical capabilities: operating modes of the power system and the capacities of generating equipment.
Prior to that, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that Minsk was ready to provide assistance to Ukraine and Lithuania and supply electricity there, despite the hostile position of the authorities of the two countries. According to him, it would be despicable not to help the “suffering neighbors” with additional capacities.
