Chief of the General Staff: The Armed Forces of Belarus are ready to use special nuclear weapons
Joint exercises of non-strategic nuclear forces with the Russian Federation showed that the Armed Forces of Belarus are ready to use special nuclear weapons, said the Chief of the General Staff of the Republic’s Armed Forces, Major General Pavel Muraveiko. This is reported by TASS.
The Chief of the General Staff also noted that “such training is one of the ways to increase our readiness and our potential.” He clarified that as part of the exercises, Iskander operational-tactical missile systems moved to designated areas, received special ammunition, docked them with combat units and took up combat duty.
Earlier, the Minister of Defense of the Republic, Viktor Khrenin, explained that Belarus’ participation in joint nuclear exercises with Russia does not threaten other countries. “We do not project appropriate military threats onto third countries or onto anyone,” he said.
The Russian Ministry of Defense, in turn, indicated that as part of the second stage of the exercises, participants intend to practice the combat use of tactical nuclear weapons. The reason for their holding, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the tense situation, which “is daily provoked by new decisions and actions of Western countries that are hostile towards Russia.”
