The Embassy of Belarus in the Russian Federation denied the possibility of abandoning Mir cards in the country
Belarus is not going to refuse to service Mir cards and thereby deviate from its allied obligations. About this in your Telegram channel stated Advisor – Envoy of the Belarusian Embassy in Russia Alexander Shpakovsky.
Thus, he commented on part of the Kommersant article, which talked about the details of the agreements between the National Payment Card System (NSCP), the operator of the Mir payment system, and the Belarusian Belkart system.
The publication referred to a source in the Russian banking market, who indicated that the Armenian ArCa and the Kyrgyz Elkart signed exactly the same agreements with NSPK, but were forced to break them in order not to fall under Western sanctions. The publication’s interlocutor noted that the agreement with the Tajik Korti Milli is under threat.
The situations are similar in the sense that Belarus and Tajikistan continue to issue cards from Western payment systems, so if they fall under sanctions, they will face consequences. The source emphasized that the balance of interests will be decisive; financial organizations must decide in which case they are threatened with large losses.

At the same time, the material noted that the risk of cessation of service for Mir cards in Belarus is minimal, because the economies of the two countries are too connected with each other.
Shpakovsky saw in the material “signs of classic information sabotage aimed at undermining trust within the Union State of Belarus and Russia,” which was published on the eve of negotiations between the Central Bank of the Russian Federation and the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus.
The diplomat wondered who benefits from this, and also warned about the possibility of contacting Russian government authorities in connection with “information provocation” in accordance with diplomatic practices. In his opinion, it is impossible to exclude even the blocking of Kommersant in the Belarusian segment of the Internet.
Earlier, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia announced their refusal to service Mir cards due to threats for banks to fall under secondary US sanctions. The NSPK emphasizes that foreign banks make such decisions independently and there is no opportunity to influence their policies.
