The leader of the humanitarian organization “House of Belarus” in Ukraine, Vitaly Shishov, who disappeared yesterday, was found hanged in a park in Kiev. This was reported today by the Ukrainian metropolitan police. The man was the head of the Belarusian House, an organization based in Ukraine that helps those who intend to flee Minsk and its surroundings after the violent repression of the regime, following the sham elections of 9 August. The case takes on the contours of a demonstration execution at the hands of the Belarusian KGB. It would not be the first time: a year ago, also in August, the secret services of Minsk had hanged another member of the opposition in the forest, Konstantin Shishmakov.
“The police have initiated criminal proceedings under Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (premeditated murder) and will investigate all possible accounts, including the murder presented as suicide.” This was stated in a statement published on the website of the Ukrainian National Police.
“There is no doubt that this is an operation planned by the Chekists (the members of the secret services, ed) to liquidate a Belarusian who represented a real danger to the regime”, said The House of Belarus in a statement, thus accusing the murder of the Lukashenko regime, in power for 27 years.
“Vitaly was under surveillance and this was reported to the (Ukrainian) police. We have been warned on several occasions by both local sources and people in Belarus of the (possibility of) any kind of provocation that could amount to kidnapping and liquidation, ”the NGO continued. In a few days, on August 8, the Belarusian House was planning a march in Kiev to mark the anniversary of the beginning of the protests against “the last dictator of Europe”.
