Yesterday, Beijing expressed its regret over the violation of US airspace by an unmanned Chinese balloon, stressing that the flying object is a civilian tool for scientific research, and that its entry into US airspace was done “unintentionally”, after the Pentagon announced that it was tracking a Chinese spy balloon.
“The balloon is from China. It is a civil balloon used for research purposes, primarily for meteorological research,” the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
“The Chinese side regrets that the balloon unintentionally entered US airspace due to force majeure,” the statement added.
Yesterday, the Pentagon announced that it was monitoring the movements of a Chinese balloon flying at a high altitude over American territory, stressing that it did not pose any direct threat.
The US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, decided to postpone his upcoming visit to Beijing, next week, against the background of the “airship crisis.”
