The wife of the President of the Government, Begoña Gómez, has informed the judge that she is investigating her for alleged crimes of misappropriation and professional intrusion for the use of software from the Complutense University of Madrid related to the master’s degree and the chair of Competitive Social Responsibility that He taught at said center that he will not be able to come next Monday to be notified of the complaint about the matter.
In a letter to the Court, his lawyer Antonio Camacho informs the instructor that on November 18, when the complaint was scheduled to be transferred to him and he was summoned to testify as under investigation, “he will be on an official visit to the Federative Republic of Brazil.” for the purposes of attending the G-20 World Summit. “His presence responds to the official invitation of the Presidency of the Federative Republic of Brazil issued in his name,” explains the lawyer, who accompanies the communication with the personal invitation to Gómez from the first lady of Brazil, Janja Lula da Silva. President Pedro Sánchez is one of the Prime Ministers who will attend the Summit as a representative of one of the member countries of the G-20. This will be held in Rio de Janeiro and Begoña Gómez had already confirmed her attendance, a document that she has also provided to the judge.
The lawyer communicates “in order to facilitate the work of the Court” that Gómez “has perfect knowledge of the aforementioned complaint” because the court has sent them the proceedings and the admission order appears, so there would be no need for it to be she personally Plaza de Castilla to acknowledge.
Remember at this point that “no rule requires that the notification of the aforementioned complaint be personal, nor does its summons to testify” since on two previous occasions she was summoned to give a statement by means of notification at her home without her having to go to court to pick it up.
“This party considers that its right to defense is safeguarded, without its presence being necessary in the courts of Plaza de Castilla to effect notification of the aforementioned resolutions, thus not requiring a new summons,” it adds.
Based on a complaint from Hazte Oír
The document reports the order issued by the instructor Juan Carlos Peinado on October 28, when he admitted a HazteOír complaint against Begoña Gómez to processing and expanded her accusation for influence peddling and corruption between individuals to the crimes of misappropriation and intrusion professional in relation to the software of the extraordinary chair that he directed at the Complutense University of Madrid and that was hosted on a website registered in his name and with the same name as a business that also belonged to him.
In that resolution, Peinado established that Begoña Gómez must appear on Monday, November 18, when she has summoned a group of witnesses, but for the sole purpose of notifying her of the new complaint and the date on which she should come to testify. This averted the possibility of an unsuccessful summons, like the first one last July, in which she assured that she was unaware of the facts of which she was accused. The session then had to be suspended and given time to educate himself and return another day.
The G-20 Leaders’ Summit is scheduled for November 18 and 19 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and as usual, the organization has planned a parallel agenda for those accompanying the heads of state of the 19 invited countries. In his letter, Gómez’s lawyer attaches the personal invitation processed by the Brazilian Embassy in Spain through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where the First Lady of the country, Janja Lula da Silva, conveys to him that “his presence will be highly appreciated in this unique opportunity to discuss” their respective “personal and professional experiences” on the topics on the agenda “and many others that are essential to build a more just, supportive and sustainable future for all.”
Gómez, for her part, responds to the invitation that “I confirm my attendance and look forward to the activities that will be carried out. I am sure that together we can move towards a future of greater equality and empowerment of women.”
