The beach volleyball players Sanne Keizer and Madelein Meppelink have been eliminated at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The Dutch duo also lost their third group match in three sets in Tokyo. The American couple April Ross/Alix Klineman, placed second, won 20-22 21-17 15-5.
Keizer and Meppelink also lost their first two group matches in three sets, first against the Spanish women Liliana Fernandez Steiner and Elsa Baquerizo McMillan and then against Chen Xue and Xinxin Wang from China.
Meppelink took part in the Olympic Games for the third time. She has been in a couple with Keizer since 2017, who participated in the London 2012 Games and then took a break for a few years. Together they became European champions in 2018. At previous Games, both never progressed beyond the eighth finals with other partners.
