It is a film with a fantastic cut, starring Dani Rovira, the Mexican Cecilia Suárez and José Sacristán
Fernando Colomo (‘The tribe’, ‘Polyamory for beginners’) is currently filming ‘Beware what you wish for’, a Christmas comedy of a fantastic cut, on request. It stars Dani Rovira, Mexican Cecilia Suárez and José Sacristán, recent National Film Award winner. The film, aimed at a family audience and produced by Álvaro Longoria for Morena Films (‘Champions’, ‘Everyone knows it’).
The film is based on a story by the writer and filmmaker David Marqués that has been converted into a script by Mireia Llinás (‘I’m alive’), being one of the few scripts for a Colomo film in which the director himself has not participated. The cast is joined by the children Patricia Franch and Eros Herrero, along with the veterans Fernando Esteso, Willy Montesinos, Vicente Romero and Sonsoles Benedicto.
‘Beware what you wish for’ is a comedy of good feelings that will reach viewers this very Christmas. It all starts when a couple, Miguel (Dani Rovira) and Laura (Cecilia Suarez) decide to spend Christmas with their young children, in a cabin in the mountains. Grandfather Benigno (José Sacristán), endowed with magical powers, finally cannot accompany them, but the children steal his magic ball that grants wishes to those who possess it. With their wishes and the help of the ball, the children inadvertently bring snowmen to life, wreaking havoc on what was to be a peaceful family vacation.
In the words of Fernando Colomo: «It is a film that awakens the child in all of us. That is what attracts me the most about this project, which allows me to get closer to a story that had never been asked of me before. Here the protagonists are children who are at that age in which it is still believed that magic can transform the world. An age in which fiction coexists with reality, truth with fantasy, and in which magical elements are integrated into everyday actions ».
According to David Marqués, the basis was a story he wrote after the storm and the snow Filomena that devastated Madrid: «It occurred to me a few months ago, being a short story with no further pretensions, but then Álvaro Longoria from Morena Films called me and with who I have a great relationship after doing Champions or Diary of a quarantine asking me if I had something about Christmas and I sent it to him ».
Dani Rovira will shortly premiere ‘Open Arms’ and ‘Jungle Cruise’, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt. The Mexican Cecilia Suárez after filming with her head director, Manolo Caro, who made her a popular star thanks to ‘La casa de las flores’, has participated in the series’ 3 roads’ and in the films’ Alegría’ and ‘La passenger ‘, without leaving Spain.
The film is scheduled to be released in theaters this coming fall – initially the scheduled date is October 19 – by A Contracorriente Films. It is a production by Mágica Navidad, AIE and Morena Films that is filmed in different locations in the Community of Madrid. After its debut in theaters, it will be Amazon Prime Video who will premiere the film on its streaming service.
