Mexicali, Mexico.- For the first time, the number of female legislators will exceed their male counterparts in the Baja California Legislature, which began in the early hours of August 1.
Congress will have 16 women and 9 men as local deputies. In addition, the current Legislature will have a representative of sexual diversity, Jaime Eduardo Cantón Rocha, former Private Secretary of the current Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila, and former Coordinator of the state Cabinet.
Several female deputies will repeat their duties, such as Alejandra Ang Hernández, Michel Sánchez Allende, Julia Andrea González Quiroz, Evelyn Sánchez and Montserrat Murillo.
However, there are also figures with decades of experience in politics, such as the former PAN mayor Jorge Ramos Hernández, now endorsed by the PVEM, and close to the husband of Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila, Carlos Torres Torres. Juan Manuel Molina García, a four-time local deputy, also remains in the Morena party.

“There is great concern about the security conditions in the country,” he said, “there is consternation (in Baja California) over the leader of the National Chamber of the Fishing Industry (Minerva Pérez Castro).”
“Thousands of business owners in this country are being told that they must resign themselves to being charged a protection fee. We cannot normalize a message of this kind,” emphasized Álvarez Máynez, who met with state business owners in Tijuana.
The local Congress welcomed the proportional representation seats for Daylín García Ruvalcaba in Baja California, and the federal seat for Gustavo de Hoyos, former national president of the Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex).
