BBK has held the fourth edition of the forum that analyzes the role of global trends in innovation, growth and building the future and how they affect the local ecosystem. Thus, based on the axes of prosperity, sustainability and generations Three dialogue tables have been held with representatives of the economy, business, education, research and Basque society.
The BBK Room in Bilbao has hosted the fourth edition of BBK Trends, a space for dialogue and reflection, open to people, companies and institutions interested in exploring the contribution of trends and their impact in Bizkaia, as well as their potential to discover opportunities, renew themselves or anticipate the changes that are to come.
This day has delved into the challenges and opportunities of the territory through three dialogue tables around three themes: Prosperity, Sustainability and Generations. “We live in a world where global trends impact every corner of the planet, and we believe that It is essential to approach them from a local perspective“said the director of BBK Social Work, Nora Sarasola, during the opening.
As he has pointed out, “change is constant and our job is to lead that change.” towards a more innovative, sustainable and inclusive Bizkaia. It is not just about observing what is happening worldwide, but about interpret those movements from our local reality, with the peculiarities and strengths that characterize us”.
The first table has focused on how to build a Prosperous Bizkaia from two axes: economic development and energy transition. For this, it has had the participation of Guillermo Dorronsoro, Management Board Advisor at Zabala Innovation and professor at Deusto Business School; Iván Martén, president of Orkestra; José Galindez, founder and president of the EKI Foundation; and Sara Jainaga, Director of Sustainability at Sidenor.
A sustainable energy transition
“Europe has gone too far with the issue of sustainability and electric vehicles, Euskadi can contribute to climate change through technology, and the energy transition has to be economically sustainable for companies” have been some of the reflections of this first intervention.
How to Boost a Green and sustainable Bizkaia from the protection of the environment and climate change and the commitment to km0 and sustainable gastronomy have been the axes of the second table of the session, the so-called Green and Sustainable Bizkaia. Adela Úcar, journalist specialized in environment and sustainability; Aitana Ávila, owner of La Cocina de Aitxu, and finalist of Masterchef 7; Ibon Galarraga, partner and director of Metroeconomica and senior researcher at the Basque Center for Climate Change (BC3); and Jon Kortajarena, model and actor, have been in charge of this second debate.
“The decisions we make today should have been made 30 years ago, there is a lot of denial on climate change and the deadlines for its evolution have been reduced by half“were the conclusions of the debate on green and sustainable Bizkaia.
The third and last of the tables has been about how to connect a Intergenerational Bizkaia laying the foundations for the demographic challenge and addressing culture as the main driver of social cohesion. A conversation that featured the actress and illustrator Ane Pikaza; to the journalist Félix Linares, and to the researcher, co-founder of Innovating Alimentary Machines and doctor, Maitane Alonso.
In this last month the main lesson has been that the intergenerational mix provides wealth to society as a whole and that we must fight against ageism.
