A pinch of presumption costs Nagelsmann’s team dearly, down by two goals in the 1st half. Lewandowski made it short before half-time but in the second half missed the equalizer. Dortmund can reach -1 from the champions tomorrow
It was supposed to be an uneven game, in reality it was balanced and surprising. Bayern Munich loses the Bavarian derby with Augsburg 2-1 (Pedersen scored in the 23 ‘, Hahn in the 36’ and Lewandowski in the 38 ‘) and risks seeing Dortmund draw closer, who by beating Stuttgart tomorrow can return to -1 from the top. Nagelsmann’s team arrived at the challenge with the underdogs: not only did they have 19 points more than their opponents, but in Lewandowski a player who, in this edition of the Bundesliga, had scored more goals alone than the entire opposing team (13 a 9). Precisely for this reason, especially in the first half (closed at a disadvantage for the first time this season), Nagelsmann’s team seemed a bit arrogant, sure that sooner or later they would score and straighten the game. This was not the case. And in the end there was an unexpected slip.
the race
–
Nagelsmann lines up his side with the classic 4-2-3-1 with Sané, Müller and Gnabry behind Lewandowski. The German champions have, right from the start, the ball of the game in hand, dominating in possession. However, Bayern creates little (a couple of conclusions from Richards and Lewandowski that do not frame the goal) and on 23 ‘suffers, suddenly, the Augsburg goal: Upamecano is clumsy in clearing the area after Iago’s cross, the the ball thus reaches Pederson who strikes Neuer from the heart of the area. Bayern does not react and the hosts find the doubling: in the 36th minute it is Zeqiri who steals the ball from Sabitzer and breaks through on the left, Iago is good at fishing in the area Hahn who, with his head, overcomes Hernandez and scores 2-0. This time the answer is not long in coming: already in the 38th minute Bayern are back in the game with Lewandowski’s goal. Pavard has space on the right, puts the ball in the middle where Oxford holes the intervention allowing the Pole to hit in a semi-reverse.
the recovery
–
The second half opens with a sensational mistake by Lewandowski: Gumny tries to lean against Gikiewicz, but ends up triggering the Pole, who is not cold enough and shoots high. At 55 ‘it is Goretza who imitates him from an excellent position. Two more occasions in the 72nd and 74th minutes: first it was Davies, launched by Musiala, who was closed by Framberger in a crash at the moment of the shot. Immediately after, Bayern’s Canadian, freed of Maier, still misses the goal by a few centimeters.
At 80 ‘it is up to Lewandowski to waste a gigantic opportunity: triggered by Musiala, he hits with a sure shot right, but Gikiewicz is phenomenal to reject (Davies is then imprecise on the rebound). At 84 Musiala tries, but the goalkeeper is careful and Oxford is then quick to clear the area. Bayern continue to apply pressure, but Augsburg are solid and defend well, withstanding the impact of their opponents. It ends 2-1, with Dortmund having to take advantage of the slip of the reigning champions to reopen the championship.
