The Bavarians play badly but overturn the game in the second half with goals from Coman and Musiala. The lead in the standings over Dortmund is now six points
Listless and awkward. But even more dominant. Bayern Munich, despite playing badly and under rhythm, beat Mainz 2-1 (decisive goals from Coman in the 53rd minute and from Musiala in the 74th minute, which overturned Onisiwo’s initial advantage) and extended in the standings reaching +6 from Dortmund second. If even on a bad day the Bavarians manage to score points over their rivals, it is difficult to think that anyone could take away from Nagelsmann’s team what would be the tenth title in a row.
THE RACE
–
Nagelsmann, given the many absent in midfield, lined up his team with 4-1-4-1, with Coman, Musiala, Müller and Sané behind Lewandowski. The pace is slow, however, also because there is no one to make the ball go round. In the first minutes Bayern therefore tries to break through mostly with individual actions (the most active is Davies), but Mainz, which with 14 goals conceded before the kick-off have the second best defense of the tournament (the Bavarians have collected one more goal) covers the field well and concedes little. On the contrary, it is precisely the guests who become dangerous: on 20 ‘there is a contact in the area between Upamecano and Lee for which the referee, after confronting the Var, decides not to concede the penalty. However, Bayern does not grasp the alarm bell and on 22 ‘finds themselves under. Burkardt is very good at turning around in a handkerchief and serving, with his left (right), a ball that Onisiwo just needs to land on the net. Bayern can only be seen in the 32nd minute, when Müller, from an excellent position, shoots high over the crossbar. Before the break there is time for only one other occasion for the Bavarians: Zentner comes out badly, favoring Coman, but closed by Hack in the moment of hitting the net.
THE SHOOT
–
In the second half, Bayern immediately seemed more determined, putting Zentner in difficulty first with Lewandowski, then with Coman. At 53 ‘, the Bavarians’ draw is not a surprise: Coman, caught by a long pass by Tolisso, controls the ball well and sends it between the legs of the opposing goalkeeper. Bayern crushes Mainz more and more in their own half and takes the lead in the 74th minute: Gnabry triggers Pavard, good at picking Musiala who gets rid of Boetius with a body feint and beats Zentner again. Mainz try to react, but attack with too much confusion to be able to worry Neuer. It ends 2-1, with Bayern that even when it is listless and awkward it extends in the standings. Proving more and more dominant.
THE OTHERS
–
Borussia Dortmund disappoint and do not go beyond the 1-1 at Bochum. Friborg fell, beaten for at home by Hoffenheim who thus undermined him from fourth place. Jovetic and Selke score in the 2-0 with which Hertha beat Bielefeld. Another goal suffered by Gladbach: after the 0-6 last week, the Fohlen lose 4-1 against Leipzig, which passed to Domenico Tedesco this week.
