It’s no secret that Battlefield 2042 had one of the worst launches of the franchise, to the point that its forums in Reddit could be closed due to all the toxicity from the community. The game isn’t as bad as many made it out to be, but it certainly didn’t live up to expectations by much, and EA Obviously he’s not too happy about it.
Tom Henderson, trustworthy insider and filter of Battlefield, states that EA is “exploring all possible options” as to the future of Battlefield 2042. This includes that the title may eventually become an experience free-to-play. The game is currently being sold at full price on all platforms where it’s available, so that would definitely be a drastic change.
However, it is more likely that Battlefield 2042 be added to EA Play before he publisher decide to make it a free experience. It’s also worth noting that there are still a lot of important issues to be resolved within the game, and EA it has already promised to solve the vast majority of them. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for this game, but it shouldn’t be that surprising if it is indeed announced as a free-to-play.
Publisher’s note: It would make sense for EA to decide to make Battlefield 2042 free-to-play. After all, the community was not very satisfied with this new proposal and surely the sales of the game must be below the expectations of the publisher. Obviously, this would also mean that the game would receive microtransactions.
