HBO gave the official green light for the series The Penguina spin-off of the recently released The Batman starring Colin Farrel.
The series will be produced by Matt Reeves, Dylan Clark, Colin Farrell and Lauren LeFranc, who writes and acts as showrunner. Penguin is one of the many villains to appear in The Batman, but rumors that Oswald Cobblepot would star in a series of his own began to emerge as early as September.
Here are the statements from Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content at HBO:
We are thrilled to present to the public a new version of this iconic DC character that they have never seen before. It’s amazing to work with Matt, Dylan and Lauren to continue this story and to see Colin take his already outstanding performance of him in ‘The Batman’ to the next level.
These are the words of Matt Reeves:
Colin punctured the screen as the Penguin in ‘The Batman’, and having the chance to fully explore that character’s inner life on HBO is an absolute thrill. Dylan and I are so excited to work with Lauren in continuing Oz’s story as she violently grabs her power of hers in Gotham.
Lauren Le Franc continued:
I’ve long been a fan of the world of ‘The Batman’ and Matt’s movie is such a powerful and bold entrance. I am thrilled and honored to continue telling stories in the filthy world of Gotham City, and what better way to channel my inner villain than to tell the story of Oswald Cobblepot? I am thrilled to be working with Colin, Matt, Dylan, 6th & Idaho, Warners and HBO Max as we work to bring this story to the screen.
Finally Colin Farrell said this:
The world that Matt Reeves created for ‘The Batman’ deserves a deeper look through the eyes of Oswald Cobblepot. I couldn’t be more excited to continue this exploration of Oz as he climbs the dark ranks to become the Penguin. It will be nice to bring him back to the streets of Gotham for some madness and some chaos.
The news on the spin-off dedicated to Il Pinguino ends here, we hope to find out more news in the coming weeks.
