Winning beast
Between Bagnaia and Martin, the one enjoying the Misano-2 weekend is – surprisingly – Enea Bastianini. For the first time the Rimini native becomes prophet in his own country on his home track, relaunching himself in the race for the title and signing a success that is destined to be discussed for the way it came about. After having chased Jorge Martin for a long time in fact, the Beast managed to overturn the fate of the race right on the last lap, diving inside at turn 4 and passing by forcefully against the leader of the World Championship with a maneuver that split the minds of the paddock in two. For the Spaniards it was over the limit and therefore to be penalized; for the Italians it was regular, and therefore to be applauded.
Final attack
“Attacking in Turn 4 on the last lap was the only way I had to try to win the race“, Bastianini explained very simply in the press conference. Speaking to the media after the race, #23 – who dedicated his success to the late Luca Salvadori and to ‘his’ Romagna which is going through a very difficult period – then went into more detail, ‘bouncing’ the responsibility for the contact right back to Martin. “Only Jorge and I know how it went. – Bastianini’s thought – he knows he heard my noise. He heard my noise and he closed the line. He did the same thing he did at the exit of turn 6, when I wanted to enter Quercia but he closed me and I had to brake. If we want to talk about borderline moves, his was no exception.“.
Towards Asia
Now for Bastianini it also takes on another value long series of five races in Asia. The gap from the top is still considerable – 59 points – but the Beast will arrive in the East on the wings of enthusiasm: “I like how we are making things work. I am happy with the work the team is doing, they are not underestimating anything. They are trying to give me 100% to be able to win, so it is a good condition. Now the Asian tour starts, which I absolutely like.“. Fireworks, already from Indonesia, will not be missing.
