Seagulls – KTP-Basket 89–80 (wins 1-0)
Helsinki Seagulls defeated Kotka KTP-Basket at the opening of the basketball league playoffs 89–80. Seagulls are now leading the semi-finals 1-0 as three wins are required to continue.
The Seagulls season has so far been below expectations. The well-known lineup has not produced the desired result in the field. The 13 losses in the regular season is a reading from which the team can only start to improve.
Fortunately, Seagulls got their broken lines in order just before the playoffs. Until a month ago Petteri Koponen, Lassi Nikkarinen, Tuukka Kotti and Antti Kanervo sat on a swap bench wearing hoodies, but now the whole crowd was involved in the game.
The realities quickly became clear to KTP when Seagulls brought Kanervo from the bench in their first substitution, Seth Allenin and Joe Lawson. The extent is quite different from that of eagles.
Allen featured opponents and got to show off his patent ventilation – stooping running down his arms – several times as the ball sank into the basket. The American was completely unruly, and the defensive players did not know which direction to go.
Koponen, who has seen everything in Seagulls, still manages to get excited about the playoffs in the Basketball League, even though he has been in the top European leagues for years.
When Ivan Tkachenko pushed a wonderful donk into KTP’s basket, Koponen dug a disco from his back pocket raise the roof -dance movement. The audience responded to the shout and raised the decibels to the highest readings of the evening.
KTP had to start the playoffs without a winger Joonas Lehtoranta and butt Richard Williamsiawho are injured. Takamies Yahwon Blair however, brought good news for his team to be able to play.
