Bari: Conte, M5S does not participate in primaries
“Today the first judicial investigation is being joined by a second one which obviously involves vote swapping, the pollution of the vote. Something we have been denouncing for some time. For the Five Star Movement there are no conditions to seriously hold the primaries”. This was said by Giuseppe Conte, leader of the M5S, on the sidelines of an event in Piazza della Liberta' in Bari, in support of the centre-left primary candidate, Michele Laoforgia. The consultation, which sees Michele Laforgia and Vito Leccese competing, is scheduled for Sunday 7 April.
Conte's comment concerns the investigation into electoral corruption which involved some municipalities in the metropolitan area and the Puglia region, with the consequent resignation of the regional transport councilor, Anita Maurodinoia. Conte explained that the reasons that pushed the Cinquestelle to support the candidate Laforgia “remain unchanged, indeed they are strengthened. We will also discuss with the others in the coalition, the other political and civic forces of the coalition, to try to face the electoral campaign for Bari in the sign of a new beginning, of a strengthening of legality safeguards, of maximum transparency”.
Nazareno Sources: “Conte's choice in Bari is incomprehensible”
“Conte's choice to exit the primaries is incomprehensible. If the 5 Star Movement thinks it can win on its own against the right, go ahead. But have respect for the city of Bari, for the centre-left voters and don't think you're giving morality lessons to anyone. The Democratic Party remains alongside Bari which has already demonstrated how important the Democratic Party is as a safeguard of legality and good administration. We are certain that the Democratic Party together with the centre-left will win the elections again against this right”. This is what we learn from Fonti del Nazareno sources.
