Barça’s first joy in the Champions League but a new whistle for the team. FC Barcelona came out determined to win the three points against Dinamo Kiev and did what they do best: take possession of the ball. With the possession of the ball and Jordi Alba’s internships on the wing, it was a matter of time before the goal arrived. Luuk de Jong had the first chances for Barcelona but this player is still denied in the face of goal and instead of redeeming himself what he is achieving is that more and more fans are wondering why that player is wearing the shirt of the Barcelona.
Returning to the game, it was Gerard Piqué who took advantage of an assist from Jordi Alba to beat Bushchán after 36 minutes of play. And there the game could well have ended because what happened until the 90th minute was totally irrelevant.
Koeman put Ansu Fati and Coutinho at halftime, but if what he expected was that they would revolutionize the game, nothing of the sort happened. On the contrary, as the minutes passed, Barcelona fell and ended up locked in his area, losing time. Against any other team that single goal advantage would have been in danger, but the Ukrainians did not shoot once between the three sticks. The danger came more from the feeling of having a single goal and that Barça came at a time when they forgot the second than actually because of Dinamo’s offensive potential.
The best thing for Barcelona is that it took three very important points and maintains its options to go to the second round, that yes as seconds since Bayern seems unattainable. What seemed impossible after the first two days, is now more likely but not with this game or with this attitude. The fans went from cheering Gavi, Piqué or Kun to booing the game of theirs seeing how they locked themselves in the area by order of their coach.
Barça has what it has but its followers do not like to see the team locked behind and less in a game that could have been sentenced in the first half. The lack of aim could condemn Barcelona, but luckily Dinamo did nothing to take the victory, not even to draw. Now it’s time to think about the next game, the Clásico against Real Madrid.
