Women’s Golden Ball – The French magazine France Football announced the 20 nominees to win the top soccer prize in the 2021 edition. The players were defined according to the vote of 180 journalists from around the world. The delivery ceremony will take place next Monday, November 29 at the Châtelet Theater in Paris, the same place as in 2019. It is no surprise that the European country leads the list with four players: Irene Paredes (PSG), Alexia Putellas, Sandra Paños and Jennifer Hermoso (FC Barcelona). For reasons related to the coronavirus pandemic, the magazine France Football decided not to deliver the award in 2020 as the organizers considered that it negatively affected all the leagues in the world. However, in its previous edition, the women’s Golden Ball was won by the American Megan Rapinoe. However, the renowned soccer player this year was not chosen for the award nomination and only one American will fight to win the Ballon d’Or,
Samantha Mewis.
The only Latin player who is present on the list is Christiane Endler, goalkeeper -and captain- of the Chilean team is one of the best in her position worldwide. She was twice nominated for best goalkeeper by FIFA. At the end of last season, and after four years at the club, Endler left PSG after winning the French Championship title for the first time. Currently, he defends the Olympique de Lyon shirt, which is aiming for an eighth title.
