Nightmare Saturday for the McLaren in Bahrain. Daniel Ricciardo was eliminated in Q1 with the 18th time, Lando Norris was unable to avoid the same fate in the following session ended in 13th position. A result that means seventh row in the race behind unexpected opponents until the tests in Bahrain.
The McLaren driver commented on a difficult Saturday to digest: “I think we did a good job with what we had, we just aren’t as fast as we want to be. I feel like I’ve had a good ride – the words of Lando Norris – we have made some improvements but, of course, the same goes for everyone else. We need to extract a lot of potential from this car. In view of tomorrow’s race, obviously we are not giving up, there are many things to discover that could reward us or put someone else in trouble. The goal is the points area ”. Norris on Twitter he congratulated Leclerc for the pole position.
Tough one today, but no surprises. We’ll go at it tomorrow. Congrats on pole @Charles_Leclerc pic.twitter.com/SzHnRcNDwp

Andrea SeidlMcLaren team principal stresses that the day has been negative and does not seek excuses while thanking the McLaren men for their efforts: “We are not delivering the level of performance we want – said Seidl – when we return to the factory we will carry out a detailed investigation to find out what is wrong. I thank all the men involved on the track and at the McLaren Technology Center as well as the Mercedes engineers. We are all working hard to try to solve the problems that beset us. Tomorrow we want to finish in the points ”.
