Title hunt
It opens tonight, in the evocative setting of Phillip Islandthe last ‘hat-trick’ of races of the 2024 season, which precedes the grand finale in Valencia. In succession the races will take place in Australia, Thailand and Malaysia. The competition for the conquest of the world title is all between Jorge Martin And Pecco Bagnaiawhich arrive on the Australian track – perhaps the most spectacular of the entire season – separated by just 10 points to the advantage of the standard bearer of the Prima-Pramac team. However, Bagnaia is fresh from his double at Motegi and aims to further reduce his gap to the Spaniard.
The pilots’ reflections
“I’m happy to be back on track in Australia – declared the three-time world champion, presenting the Phillip Island race – this round will open the last triple of the season before the grand finale in Valencia, so it will be very important. There are very few Grands Prix left now and it will be really essential to always get the best and not make mistakes. We worked well in Motegi last weekend, but it is also a track that suits my riding style very well. Phillip Island is a fast track where I have always been quite competitive, but also a bit particular and the grip of the asphalt and the fluctuating weather conditions always play a key role. In any case, we are ready and will do our best to be fast straight away.”.
Important help for Bagnaia could come from his teammate, Enea Bastianini, currently third in the standings and in turn involved in a tight challenge with Marc Marquez to stay on the podium until the end of the championship: “Racing at Phillip Island is always something fantastic – declared the winner of Misano-2 – the layout of the track is very nice and it is a very fast track. Last year, due to strong winds, we had to move the GP to Saturday, while the Sprint, which was scheduled for Sunday, was ultimately cancelled. So I’m looking forward to a full weekend in Australia this year. So far we have been fast and competitive on almost all the tracks; therefore, I aim to start off on the right foot here too and achieve a good result”.
