At Misano Fabio Quartararo became world champion in the MotoGP class for the first time in his career, taking advantage of the leader’s crash ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia four laps from the end. Thus Yamaha has won the world championship title among riders after six years, but is also leading the team classification with +9 on Ducati, while in the constructors’ classification it is the Italian brand that leads with 12 points ahead of rivals Iwata. And precisely the advantage in this last list suggests that in this 2021 Ducati will be the best bike on the track, given that only Quartararo is managing to bring Yamaha to the top of the standings.
This thought, however, is not shared by Bagnaia, who explained: “Everyone thinks Ducati is the best, fastest and most competitive bike. But it was a Yamaha that won the world championship. We have worked hard and our bike is certainly fast, but we still have a lot of work to do for the future. The step forward made this year was evident and for the next year we can become the bike to beat“, observed ‘Pecco’, who wanted to acquit himself for the mistake of Misano: “There was an opportunity and I tried to the end. Without a doubt, Fabio is the rider who most deserved the title. He was in my situation last year, he was fighting for the title and made mistakes. I will arrive more prepared for next season“.
The Ducati centaur seems to have clear ideas about the 2022 rivals: “We have laid a very good foundation for next year and I feel I have learned a lot in the last few races. Quartararo, Mir and Marc Marquez will be very fast, but I’ll try to do my part. I have nothing to complain about, this world championship has always been in Fabio’s hands “, concluded Bagnaia.
